Screen Play Video is a business on Dawson's Creek, located in Capeside, Massachusetts.

About[]

Owned by Nellie Oleson's father,[1] Screen Play is the video rental store in Capeside, where Dawson and Pacey work throughout high school, save for their senior year.

Layout[]

The shop is a relatively small one room video store on the streets of downtown Capeside. Walking in through the front door, the walls on either side are lined with shelves of VHS tapes. Additional aisle shelving extends further into the store leading up to a large counter where employees can checkout films for customers from the backroom or sit and rewind tapes on the in house television. A smaller additional counter,[2] equipped with a TV and director’s chair, is positioned to the side about halfway through the store.

A display window at the right of the entrance is changed periodically to fit a chosen theme. In Four to Tango, Dawson decorates the display with Hitchcock paraphernalia.

Trivia[]

  • Pacey and Dawson first meet Ms. Jacobs whilst working at Screen Play in the pilot. She is renting The Graduate (1967).
  • Pacey's Pix are featured in Escape from Witch Island and include, The Bride Walks Out (1936), The Badlanders (1958), Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961), A Big Hand for the Little Lady (1966) and The Bostonians (1984).
  • Dawson and Pacey's work uniform consists of a black vest with the words "Screen Play Video" and "My Name Is [INSERT NAME]" emblazoned on two attached buttons.

BEHIND THE SCENES

  • Screen Play was a real video store located at 212 N Front Street in downtown Wilmington, North Carolina. Production added a larger counter so both Pacey and Dawson could stand behind it at the same time. The owner allowed the crew to make aesthetic changes along the way in order to accommodate the show.[3]
  • In the early days of Dawson's Creek, Katie Holmes lived above the store.[4]
  • We see the last of Screen Play in Season 3 due to the real world location being permanently closed.[5]
