That's all that matters, man. Just find what you love to do, and do it
—Dawson to Pacey
Northern Lights is the 13th episode of Season 3 of Dawson's Creek.

FOLLOW THE STARS – Dawson (James Van Der Beek) makes the radical move of dropping out of film class to spend some time re-evaluating his teenage years. Back at Potter's, Joey (Katie Holmes) is torn between attending Pacey's (Joshua Jackson) opening night and her date with A.J. (guest starr Robin Dunne) who has come to Capeside for the evening. At the play, Andie (Meredith Monroe) must take over as director when the faculty director takes ill; and Jen (Michelle Williams) agrees to meet Henry (guest star Michael Pitt), but she throws him another block by bringing Grams (Mary Beth Peil) as her date.

Joey goes on a date with A.J. to see the Aurora Borealis and misses opening night of the play, much to Pacey's dismay. Andie is promoted to director by an ill Mr. Broderick, Dawson talks to Nikki about rediscovering his passion and Henry makes an impression on everyone at the after party to reach Jen.

Think of it from the particles point of view. Inexplicably drawn to something, unable to resist
—A.J. to Joey
You fall in love and it doesn't work out and you think it'll never happen again, but it does. Believe me, it does, in the strangest of places
—Pacey to Joey
