James Van Der Beek is an American actor. Van Der Beek portrayed Dawson Leery on Dawson's Creek.

Career[]

During his time on Dawson's Creek, Van Der Beek starred in the hit 1999 film Varsity Blues, cult favorite The Rules of Attraction (2002) and Texas Rangers (2001). He also made cameo appearances with references to Dawson in the films Scary Movie (2000) and Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (2001).[2] In 2012 he portrayed a fictionalized version of himself in the short-lived ABC[3] sitcom Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23[4]. He went on to recur on CBS drama CSI:Cyber[5]. Van Der Beek co-created, wrote and starred in the 2017 series What Would Diplo Do?[6] for Viceland. In 2017, he became the voice of Vampirina's father, Boris, on the Disney Channel show Vampirina.

  • 10 years on, the Season 3 finale moment of Dawson crying on the docks has become a meme sensation[7] and, teaming up with Funny or Die[8], Van Der Beek provided an updated version in 2011.
  • While the fictional James on Don't Trust the B... opted for the title People's Sexiest Man Alive, the real Van Der Beek ironically was in the 2015 issue.[9]
  • During the run of Dawson's Creek, he hosted Saturday Night Live on January 16, 1999 with musical guest Everlast.
